Compás by Palo
Compás is the time element in flamenco. It’s absolutely central to everything that flamenco is, but it’s also what trips up most newcomers to flamenco. Fortunately, teaching compás - so that you truly understand and feel it - is what Flamenco Explained is all about.
It’s not that flamenco rhythms are in themselves so difficult to learn. It just that unless you’ve grown up hearing and playing flamenco, the rhythms are unfamiliar. What we do in our compás tutorials is to break everything down so you know what to listen for, and you know how and what to practice.
You’ll get the most complete understanding of compás by taking our Beginner Course, which is designed to introduce the subject in a cumulative way, with each video building on what we’ve already covered.
But if you’re looking for an overview or something specific, then you’ve come to the right place. We have tons of videos on compás in various Palos, from beginner to very advanced. We break it all down and explain it in a way that makes sense so that you can really feel it.
We constantly hear from students that they just “didn’t get” compás until they found Flamenco Explained. If you’re brand new to the concept we encourage you to start with our Intro to Flamenco Compás video or get started with our Beginner Course.
