Can't wrap my head around this. Both are in compas, how can i actually distinguish between the two? As told by Kai, falsetas "glue" compas together. But why can't i say the other way? Like compas glues together the falsetas? Wouldn't that be right too since both are in compas?
For example in the above video, there is no real way by which i'm able to distinguish between the compas and falsetas. The compas glues the falsetas but so is the other way

I usually say that it's the compás that glues the falsetas together, so if I said it the other way around that was a slip on my part. But you're right that it would also make sense to think of it the other way around. The real difference is that each falseta is unique, and the compás comes from a limited set of rhythmic and melodic figures, each of which is particular to each Palo (and that we guitarists come up with myriad variations of). In practice it's really hard to explain without knowing those specific figures. As you get to know a Palo, however, you start to see and become familiar with the elements that make up the compás, and you learn to recognize those no matter how many variations you hear. I wish it were easier to explain with words, but as you learn to play more and more you'll see it and it will all make sense.
