I have some different books for learning flamenco. Juan Martin, Graf-Martinez and the Flamenco Explained book. One thing I've noticed is that each presents tangos with a slightly different feel. I'm wondering why this is. Is it just a personal interpretation of the different teachers? I actually prefer the feel presented here at flamenco explained. It seems to have a nice swing
Yep - personal and regional differences account for that. I learned Tangos in Granada, where they're from, so I like to think mine are the real ones :) But really those are all good sources, so you can choose the one you like best or create a personal amalgam of the three plus what you hear on records (Tomatito live with Camaron were very influential for me). Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Kai
That's interesting, listening to Tomatito. Mostly what I'm hearing on the A chord is a rasqueado, maybe a triplet, on the 2+ beat of the bar as you present on page 24 ex5 of the book. I don't notice him playing the amii on beat 3 as on page 23 of the book. Am I correct?
