Hello Kai,
I've been looking for a competent explanation for Tarantas... have you got any plans to make a series on this palo?

Hey Ilia - yes, we've been planning to do a Taranta course. We're finishing a couple of projects now, but that;'s high on the list of new courses. Any specific questions in the meantime?
Cheers,
Kai
Thank you for the reply Kai :)
Actually yes! Are there specific chord progressions I can try to noddle around? I've tried G, A, Bm and Em with some arpeggios and light alzapua. I understand it has no compas when played solo, so I was just playing something that sounded ok.
If you think about the basics progression in Solea - Am, G, F and E, then everything in Taranta is up a whole step. So your basic progression is Bm, A, G and F#, You can expand that to Bm, E7, A, D7, G to F# and so on. One of the distinctive things about the Taranta sound is the use of open strings, so if you happen to know some music theory I recommend ignoring it :) Just play around with what open strings sound good with various voicings as you play around.
Thank you for this quick start Kai! I'll be noodling around with these in the near future :)
