Inspired by the "Listen Up!" email blast this past week, I thought I'd ask everyone to post their favorite flamenco cds. I'm somewhat new to the world of flamenco, so I've been doing my best to immerse myself in flamenco music as much as possible. My music background is more in the jazz and rock realm, so I tend to connect more with the modern flamenco guitarists, but I do know it's important for me to listen to as much "puro" flamenco as I can handle, so I make a point of doing so. That being said, here are my "heavy rotation" flamenco cds:
*Diego del Morao - Orate ( this is arguably my "desert island" cd....)
*Antonio Rey - Dos Partes Di Mi, Camino Al Alma, Coleres del Fuego
*Miguel Angel Cortes - El Calvario de un Genio
*Gerardo Nunez - Calima, Jucal
*Vicente Amigo - Memoria de los Sentidos (love all his cds, but this is my favorite)
*Tomatito - Aguadulce, Barrio Negra, Paseo de los Castanos
*Manolo Sanlucar - Tauromagia
I've also been reading a lot about Flamenco:
*The Art of Flamenco - DE Pohren
*The Flamencos of Cadiz Bay - Gerald Towson (great book!)
*The Wind Cried - Paul Hecht
*Song of the Outcasts - Robbin Totton
P.S. Enjoying the Flamenco Explained lists on Spotify!
