This video looks at how we build compás in Soleá using a few essential building blocks. From one of the most traditional ‘escobilla’ melodies have been built thousand upon thousands of Compases, and we look at how it’s been done and how you can learn to do this yourself. And along the way we look at some really fun variations that you can add to your repertoire to make your Soleá more interesting and to give you more options when writing material or improvising. Huge thanks to GSI for lending me this amazing 1971 Manuel de la Chica blanca. De la Chica was one of the greatest of the Granda builders and certainly one of the most influential. His guitars are fantastic traditional flamencos - some of the best I’ve ever played, in fact.
